Our Work

Regional Care Team Initiative - Established in July 2020, Regional Care Teams (RCT) work together to support individual system-involved youth and their families and to help inform broader system change. RCTs are made up of individuals from youth-serving agencies, systems, organizations and communities in each Department of Corrections (DOC) region who will help support and inform the Regional Care Teams as well as stay connected to the process and any outcomes and lessons learned. The state Juvenile Justice Advisory Group (JJAG) and the Maine Department of Corrections provide emergency flex funds to assist these teams in supporting youth in their community. For more information about the initiative and to access referral forms to request an individual youth case review or to request flex funds to support a young person in community go to Regional Care Teams at Place Matters

Community Reintegration Calls - In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, some Task Force members and other stakeholders have come together on a series of calls to problem-solve, to share information, and to build support for system-involved youth, with a focus on youth in the community and those transitioning out of secure care. Coordinated through the Task Force listserve and facilitated by the Place Matters team at the University of Southern Maine and the Maine Center for Youth Policy and Law, these efforts have led to the development of Regional Care Teams to work across systems and in collaboration with community partners to support youth and families, and to continue to identify, prioritize, and address policy and practice barriers in line with the CCLP report recommendations.
